(a) Which element has the most metallic character ?

  • The metallic character depends on the tendency to lose valence electrons to form positive ions. Metallic character depends on the atomic size and nuclear charge.
  • Down the group, the metallic character increases as the atomic size increases. Therefore, thallium has the maximum metallic character.
