Question

A mixture contains 1 mole of helium (Cp=2.5R,Cv=1.5R) and 1 mole of hydrogen (Cp=3.6R,Cv=2.5R). Calculate the volue of Cp,Cv and γ for the mixture.

Solution

If G heat is given
to the mixture
And,
the He absorbs
q1 and H2 absorbs
q2 amt of heat
then,
G=V1+V2......(i)
If the rise in temperature is ΔT
then
q1=n1(Cp)HeΔT
q2=n2(Cp)HeΔT
G=(n1+n2)(Cp)mixΔT
putting the values on (i)
(n1+n2)(Cp)mixΔT=n1(Cp)HeΔT+n2(Cp)H2ΔT
2CpmixΔT=2.5 RΔT+3.6RΔT
2Cpmix=6.1 R
Cpmix=6.12R
Cpmix=3.05 R
