A square grid is drawn over the irregular shape. Each square grid which is proper has been numbered as shown in the figure. If the area of one square is 4cm2, find the area of the irregular shape.

The correct option is A
There is no formula to calculate the area of an irregular shape. To find the area of an irregular shape, we draw a square grid, count the number of grid squares that are half or fully filled by the shape. But ignore those squares which are less than half filled by the shape. Count these squares and write down the number. So the area of the irregular shape can be measured with help of number of grid squares counted, i.e. 13. Now the area of one square is given as 4cm2 , then by multiplying it with number of grid squares marked, i.e 13×4=54cm2, we get the area of the total irregular shape.
