A verandah of width $2.25m$ is constructed all along outside a room which is $5.5m$ long and $4m$ wide. Find :
the area of the verandah and the cost of cementing the verandah at the rate of Rs. 200 per sq. m

Area of rectanglar potion$=length\times breadth$

(i) Area of verandah $=[5.5+2(2.25\left)\right][4+2(2.5\left)\right]-\left(5.5\right)\left(4\right)$

$=\left(10\right)\left(8.5\right)-\left(5.5\right)\left(4\right)$

$=85-22$

$=63c{m}^2$

(ii) cost of cementing the verandah :

for $1m^2=Rs200$

cost for $63c{m}^2=63\times 200$

$=12600Rs.$

$\therefore$ cost of cementing the verandah is $Rs.12,600$
