A verandah of width 2.25m is constructed all along outside a room which is 5.5m long and 4m wide. Find:
(i) the area of the verandah
(ii) the cost of cementing the floor of the verandah at the rate of Rs.200 per m2.
(i) Length (l) of room =5.5m
Breadth (b) of room =4m
Area of the room =l×b=5.5×4=22m2
Now,
Length of the rectangle EFGH so formed =EF=5.5+2×2.25=10m
And breadth of the rectangle EFGH=FG=4+2×2.25=8.5m
Therefore, area of the verandah = Area of EFGH− Area of the room
=10×8.5−4×5.5
=85−22
=63m2
(ii)
Therefore cost of cementing the verandah =63×200=Rs.12,600
