Motor neuron, receptor, sensory neuron, effector, association neuron (pathway of nerve impulse)

Open in App
Solution

The logical sequence as per the pathway is:

Receptor, sensory neuron, association neuron, motor neuron, effector.

Pathway of the nerve impulse:

  1. Receptors are the ones which detect the stimuli and turn them into electric signals. They are basically the specialized sense organs such as skin, eye etc.
  2. Sensory neurons are nerve cells that carry the electric signal or generated by the receptors to brain.
  3. Interneurons (also known as association neurons) are neurons found only in the brain and spinal cord which conveys the information to motor neuron.
  4. Motor neurons transfer orders from the brain to the muscles that perform these processes, allowing us to move, speak, swallow and breathe.
  5. Effector are the ones which gives quick response to the stimulus such as muscles.
