Question 5(b) :
How quickly can you do this? Fill appropriate sign (<, =, >):
24□36
The given fractions 24,36 are unlike fractions because they have different denominators.
When we compare two unlike fractions, we first get their equivalent fractions with a denominator which is a common multiple of the denominators of both the fractions.
The LCM of 4 and 6 is 12.
The equivalent fractions with the same denominator are :
24=2×34×3=612 and 36=3×26×2=612
Now, 612 = 612
∴ 24=36
