  4. The spinal cord is supported and protected by this backbone.

Classification of Fish:

  1. All fish species found across the world are divided into three classes. They are as follows:
  2. Agnatha - jawless fish
  3. Chrondrichthyes - cartilaginous fish
  4. Osteichthyes - bony fish

AGNATHAN:

Phylum: Chordata

Subphylum: Vertebrata

  1. Agnathans are fish with no jaws and no paired fins.
  2. They also don't have an internal skeletal system.
  3. They have a circle teeth mouth (cyclostomic) through which they bore their victim's body and suck their blood.
  4. There are two primary categories of them and they are known as Hagfish and Lampreys.

CHONDRICHTHYES:

Phylum: Chordata

Subphylum: Vertebrata

  1. Chrondrichthyes are both fearsome predators and innocuous mollusk eaters.
  2. The member of the cartilaginous fish has both real bone and a cartilage skeleton.
  3. Only the teeth and, in rare cases, the vertebrae of this species are calcified.
  4. The Chondrichthyes are a group of sharks, skates, and rays.

OSTEICHTHYES

Phylum: Chordata

Subphylum: Vertebrata

  1. This species fishes are spindly in form, oval in section, and flattened.
  2. Skin is protected by protective scales.
  3. Some fish in this group have true lungs to breathe and excellent eyesight.
  4. To stay buoyant, these bony fishes have a specific gas-filled chamber called an air bladder, which is located beneath the bone.
