Hypogynous & Perigynous And Epigynous Flowers: Based on position of calyx, corolla & androecium with respect to ovary on thalamus, the flowers are described as the hypogynous, perigynous and epigynous.

1. Hypogynous: In a Hypogynous flower, the ovary seems to be superior to the other three whorls. Here ovary is positioned high on the thalamus and other parts are below it, e.g., tomato, tulip, brinjal, etc.
2. Perigynous: In periginous flowers, the ovary is in the center and all four whorls are almost at same level. Here, the ovary is half superior/ inferior, e.g.are rose, peach, cherry, etc.
3. Epigynous: In the epigynous flowers, ovary is present inferior to calyx, corolla and androecium. The thalamus in this encloses the ovary inside it & the other three whorls are located above this, e.g., daffodil, cucumber, etc.
