Question

Derivation of formula of volume of cuboid

Open in App
Solution

As we know, VOLUME of any solid is the total space occupied by the Solid in the air.

And this space magnitude is calculated by adding the areas covered by each horizontal cross sections of the solid in its plane. And we start from the base section , & then gradually go upwards one by one , & finding the area of each section. And then by adding them. The total number of these sections depends on its height.

● VOLUME OF CUBOID =

Area of the base rectangular section = a * b ( a,b are length & breadth)

If there are total ‘h' such horizontal cross sections.. ie height = h

So total area covered by all these sections =

= h x( ab)

=> VOLUME OF CUBOID = a * b * h
