Question

Derive Boyle's law using kinetic theory of gases.

Open in App
Solution

According to Boyle's law at constant temperature pressure & volume of gas are related as PV= Constant
According to kinetic theory, pressure of gas is
P=13rV2

Since mvv=r

PV=13mNv2

Multiplying & dividing by 2 on RHS

PV=23N(12mV2)

12mV2=K.E.

PV=23NK.E.= constant
