Open in App
Solution

Wings of a cockroach:

  1. The wing is an extension of the cuticle supported by a network of chitinous ridges called nerves.
  2. The first pair of wings are opaque, brown, hard, chitinous, and narrow.
  3. They are not used for flying but are used for balance during flight and as a protective cover for the second pair of wings.
  4. Therefore, they are called wing covers or tegmina.
  5. The second pair of wings are large, thin, and membranous, which is used for flying.
  6. They are folded up when not in use.
