Question

Do viruses have a nucleus?

Open in App
Solution

Virus:

  1. A virus is an infectious submicroscopic creature that only reproduces inside live cells. All living things, including plants, animals, and microbes like bacteria and archaea, are susceptible to virus infection.
  2. There is no nucleus in a virus. Many typical cell components, like the mitochondria, nuclei, and even the ribosome, are absent in viruses.
  3. Even some of these viruses are cytoplasm-free. Viruses do not contain the organelles that cells do.
  4. All viruses have a protein coat that surrounds the nucleic acid, which can be either DNA or RNA (but not both).
  5. Additionally, an envelope made of molecules of protein and fat surrounds certain viruses.
