  1. Algae are chlorophyll-containing undifferentiated plant groups.
  2. Algae are mainly aquatic, the body is thallus which means they have no root, stem, or leaves.
  3. Algae are photosynthetic due to the presence of chlorophyll.
  4. Examples- green algae, golden algae, kombu, etc.

Algae growth in high pH:

  1. Algae can grow rapidly in an alkaline medium of water.
  2. Rapid algal growth which is known as the algal bloom is totally dependent upon the high pH range. Generally, algae grow in pH ranges of 8.2 to 8.7, which is alkaline.
  3. Minerals, water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide are other requirements for algal growth.
