Question

Does Inductance depend on the Frequency ?

Open in App
Solution

Explanation.

  1. An inductor is a passive component that is used in most power electronic circuits to store energy in the form of magnetic energy when electricity is applied to it.
  2. When a current varying with time is passed through the coil there will be an emf induced. The emf ε produced is proportional to the rate of change of current i that is εdidt. Hence, ε=-Ldidt, the proportionality constant L is called inductance.
  3. Thus Inductance is a property that opposes the change of the current. Inductance is a constant and it does not depend on any factor.
  4. The Inductance value of an inductor depends on the construction of the conductor.
  5. Thus Inductance does not depend on frequency or current.

Hence, the Inductance does not depend on the Frequency.
