Sperm: It is the male gamete that is released from the male reproductive organ and is responsible for fertilization in human sexual reproduction.
The sperm has a few specific parts Head, a Middle piece, and a Tail.
The sperm head contains a very little cytoplasm, an elongated haploid nucleus containing chromosomal material.
The middle piece possesses numerous mitochondria (25 to 30 arranged spirally) which produce energy for the movement of the tail and that is why it is called a powerhouse of sperm.
The tail is made up of a central axial filament surrounded by a small amount of cytoplasm and cell membrane as an external sheath.
It facilitates sperm motility essential for fertilization.
