1: Definition of immunity
We are not susceptible to all diseases due to the various mechanisms of our immune system that protects us. Immunity is the ability of the body to fight against diseases.

2: Types of immunity
Immunity is of two types:
● Innate:
Not specific to particular germs, known as the first line of defence and present right from birth.
○ Physical barriers
○ Physiological barriers
○ Cellular barriers
○ Cytokines
● Acquired: Specific to a particular germ and is gained during one's lifetime.
○ Humoral immune response
○ Cell mediated immune response
