Solution

Instructions:
  • Mention the characteristics
  • Formation and
  • Crops grown
Solution:
As the name suggests, the soil is reddish in colour as it contains iron. And it looks yellow when it loses water. The reddish colour is due to the presence of iron in it. It is formed by the decomposition of ancient crystalline rocks like granites and gneisses - a type of metamorphic rock. In India. They are usually found in states like Eastern parts of the Deccan plateau, southern states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Chota Nagpur plateau in Jharkhand. These rocks are very light in texture and contain limited soluble salts.
Also, red soils are rich in minerals such as iron and magnesium but deficient in nitrogen, humus, phosphoric acid and lime. This type of soil is suitable for growing crops like wheat, rice, cotton, sugarcane and pulses.
