Explain the difference between regular and irregular reflection.
The difference between regular and irregular reflection is,
Regular Reflection | Irregular Reflection |
---|---|
1.In regular reflection, all light that strikes the reflecting surface is reflected in a specific direction. | 1.In irregular reflection, all light that strikes the reflecting surface is not reflected in a specific direction. |
2.When a parallel beam of incident rays remains parallel after reflection, it is called regular reflection. (Please see diagram) | 2.When a parallel beam of incident rays does not remain parallel after reflection, it is called irregular reflection. (Please see diagram) |
3.The rays that are reflected are only reflected in one direction. (See diagram) | 3.The reflected rays do not all return in the same direction. (See diagram) |
4.It occurs on a polished, smooth surface. | 4.It occurs on an uneven and rough surface. |
5.Example: Silver plate, mirror, etc. | 5.Example: wood, paper, stone, etc. |
