Efflorescence is the property of a substance to lose wholly or partly its water of crystallization when its crystals are exposed to dry air for a short time.They become powdery such substance are called efflorescent substance.The process is efflorescence.

Example:

Washing Soda(Na2CO3.10H2O)

When hydrated sodium carbonate is exposed to dry air , it becomes a monohydrate.

Na2CO3.10H2O (Dry Air) ⇢ Na2CO3.H2O (s)+ 9 H2O(l)
