Explain with examples: Efflorescence?
Efflorescence is the property of a substance to lose wholly or partly its water of crystallization when its crystals are exposed to dry air for a short time. They become powdery such substance are called efflorescent substance. The process is efflorescence.
Example:
Washing Soda(Na2CO3.10H2O)
When hydrated sodium carbonate is exposed to dry air , it becomes a monohydrate.
Na2CO3.10H2O (Dry Air) ⇢ Na2CO3.H2O (s)+ 9 H2O(l)
