Question

Fill the complete factor tree and find the sum of the missing values in the two rectangles in given factor tree.

Open in App
Solution

Let's first start with the left branch.

80 has to be split into 20 and another factor such that they will form a factor pair.
Thus, when 20 is one factor, the possible factor pair will be: 4 x 20 = 80

And, the missing value in the rectangle on the left side will be 4.
Further, we can split 4 into its factors as 2 x 2 = 4.
Thus, the missing values in the circles in the left branch will be 2 and 2.

In the right branch, 20 has to be split into factors with 2 as one of the factor. The possible factor pairs will thus be: 10 x 2 = 20
Thus, 10 is the missing value in the rectangle on the right branch.

Futher, 10 can be split into its factors as 2 x 5 = 10
Thus, the missing values in circles at the bottom of the right branch will be: 2 and 5.

The complete factor will look like as shown below.
Sum of missing values in rectangle is 10 + 4 = 14
