Number of asymmetric C atoms = 2
When the molecule is symmetrical and has even number of chiral carbons.
Total number of Optical isomers =2n1+2p1
where n is the number of asymmetrical C atoms and p=n2
p=22=1
Total number of Optical isomers =221+211
Total number of Optical isomers =21+20=3
Out of these 3, only 2 will be optically active.
