Question

Find the sum (w-7)+(-6w-5)

Open in App
Solution

Hint: Simplify by collecting like terms.

Step 1: For simplifying let’s rewrite the expression

(w-7)+(-6w-5)

Remove the unnecessary parentheses,

w-7+(-6w-5)

Step 2: Now, When there is a + in front of an expression in parentheses, the expression remains the same.

So our expression will reduce to: w-7-6w-5

Collect like terms,

w-6w-7-5

Remember if a term doesn’t have a coefficient, it is considered as 1.

Now simplify the terms, -5w-12

Hence the sum is -5w-12
