Gene gun

• Gene gun is used in recombinant DNA technology to transfer the foreign recombinant DNA (rDNA) into plant cells and transform them. Microparticles of gold or tungsten which are about 1-2 $\mu m$ in diameter, are coated with DNA and bombarded with high velocity on the cell wall of the host plant cell.
• This causes the foreign DNA to easily pass through the barriers of the plant cell wall and cell membrane and enter the nucleus.
