Solution
Definition of plasmolysis
The process of shrinkage or contraction of the cell contents away from the cell wall is when a living plant cell loses water through osmosis is called plasmolysis.
In this process, in the first stage, the water is lost from the cytoplasm.
In the second stage, water is lost from the vacuole.
This results in shrinkage of the cell contents and a reduction in cell size.
