Question

How can you prove that light travels in a straight line?

Open in App
Solution

Drawing the diagram of the situation:

  1. We can easily prove that light travels in a straight line because the moment we put some opaque object in front of our eyes, we are unable to see anything on the other side of it even though the objects on other side might be reflecting light.
  2. If the light wasn’t traveling in a straight line, some light from those objects should have fallen into our eyes.
  3. The activity given above shows how an opaque bent pipe stops the light from reaching our eyes. This activity proves that light travels in a straight line.
