Question

How do lysosomes help in fertilization of the human sperm?

Open in App
Solution

Lysosomes in fertilisation:

  1. During the fertilization method in humans, lysosomes have a function to play.
  2. The head of the sperms consists of lysosomal content referred to as the acrosome.
  3. Here the enzymes are liberated when the sperm cells are in contact with the egg and perforate a hole via the egg’s cell membrane permitting the entry of the cell.
  4. The enzymes of the lysosomes help in disintegrating the egg’s zona pellucida.
  5. The membrane that wraps the acrosome unites with the plasma membrane of the sperm’s head letting out the acrosome’s content material.
  6. This takes place whilst the sperm is available in proximity to the zona pellucida to provoke the response of the acrosome.
  7. Consequently, the contents have surface antigens required to bind to the cell membrane of the egg similar to the various enzymes that destruct the hard coating of the egg permitting fertilization.
