Sound is a type of energy made by vibrations. These vibrations create sound waves which move through mediums such as air, water, and wood.
When an object vibrates, it causes movement in the particles of the medium. This movement is called sound waves, and it keeps going until the particles run out of energy.
Sound wave needs a medium through which it can travel. It is the transfer of energy from one point to the next through the vibration of the medium's particle.
The Speed of Sound:
The medium through which a sound wave travel determines its speed. Solids, on average, travel faster than liquids or gases in the case of sound.
Also, the denser the medium, the slower the sound travels through it. On a cold day, the same sound will travel at a different speed than on a warm day.
Hence, Sound needs a medium to travel. Its medium consists of solid, liquid, and gaseous molecules. It moves through the material by vibrating its molecules.
