Question

How do you calculate power in watts?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given that

Calculating power in watts,

  1. For calculating electrical energy demand, watts are used. If the wattage your appliance requires is not specified on the manufacturer's label, it should show the line voltage and amps the appliance requires instead.
  2. You can calculate watts if you know the voltages and amps. To determine the price of the electricity your appliance uses, you must know how many watts it requires.

Calculating watts by taking one example:

  1. Connected to a resistor with a resistance of 10Ω is a 9V battery. How much current and power flow through the resistor?

R=10ΩV=9volt

Formula Used:

I=VR

Where I=current, V=voltage, R=resistance

P=V×I

Where P=power, V=voltage, I=current

Step 2: First calculate the current

Formula Used:

I=VRI=910I=0.9Ampere

Where I=current, V=voltage, R=resistance

Step 2: Calculate the power in watts

Formula Used:

P=V×IP=9×0.9P=8.1watt

Where P=power, V=voltage, I=current

Hence, by which we calculate the power in watts.
