Question

How do you determine the degree of a polynomial?

Open in App
Solution

Determine the degree of a polynomial:

A degree of the polynomial fx is determined by the highest power of x in the polynomial.

For example:

  1. In fx=3x2+2x+5x4+6, the highest power of x is 4, so its degree is 4.
  2. In fx=5x3+9x+13+22x6, the highest power of x is 6, so its degree is 6.

Hence, a degree of the polynomial can be determined in the above-described way.
