Solution

Definition:

  1. A simple pendulum is a mechanical device that exhibits oscillating motion. In this arrangement, a point mass "M" is suspended from fixed rigid support by a long thread which is inseparable from a string of length "L"
  2. F=-mgsinθ is the net force acting on m. It is a force that restores. s=Lθ represents the distance away from the equilibrium position.

Simple Pendulum: Period and frequency relationship:

Ft=mgsinθ=md2sdt2,

Here Ft=Frequency, m=mass of the bob, θ=angular of displacement,and g=acceleration due to gravity.

Now, in the case of small displacement where

sinθ0and along the arc is the motion of the bob, then

s=Lθ

Therefore,

d2θdt2=gLsinθ=gLθ

or

d2θdt2+gLθ=0

d2θdt2+ωn2θ=0

Where, ωnis given by,

ωn=gL, here L=length of string.

and the period(T) of motion is

T=2πωn=2πLg

θ=Asin(ωnt+ϕ)

This equation shows that the length of the string and the magnitude aregare the only variables that affect the period and frequency of a simple pendulum.

Hence, we need to know the string's length and its arc in order to calculate the pendulum's angle.
