Solution

Convert into Roman numerals

In Roman numerals, 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 are represented as I, V, X, L, C, D and M (or I¯) respectively.

Every other number is written by adding or subtracting these from one another.

When smaller numbers are written after a bigger number, it is an addition. Example: 6=5+1=V+I=VI.

When smaller numbers are written before bigger numbers, it is subtraction. Example: 4=5-1=V-I=IV.

To write 98 in roman numbers we need to follow the following steps.

1. Split the number into its place value: 98=90+8
2. Convert each subgroup place value
90=100-10=C-X=XCC=100,X=108=VIII

3. Combine the Roman numeral of the subgroup place value:

98=90+8=XC+VIII=XCVIII

Hence, 98 in Roman numeral is XCVIII.
