Acetyl CoA:

  1. The glycolysis of a single glucose molecule gives two pyruvic acid molecules comprising three carbons each.
  2. Each of these pyruvate molecules undergoes acetylation and decarboxylation, to give Acetyl coenzyme A and carbon dioxide.
  3. Thus, each molecule of Acetyl CoA has two carbon atoms.
