  • There are 18 groups, according to the modern Periodicals Table. There are eight major groups in the periodic table: 1,2,13,14,15,16,17 and 18 (previously numbered Ia, IIa, IIIa, IVa, Va, VIa, VIIa, and 0, respectively).
  • A period is a row of the periodic table that is horizontal. In the periodic table, there are seven periods, with each starting on the far left. Centered on the arrangement of the outer shell electrons, a community is a vertical column of the periodic table. A total of 18 groups exist.
