How does spore formation take place?

Open in App
Solution

Spore formation:

  1. Spores are asexual reproductive structures that are capable of forming individual organisms without participating in sexual reproduction.
  2. Sporogenesis occurs in algae, fungi, and plants.
  3. The formation of spores occurs in specialized reproductive structures known as sporangia.
  4. The spores are dispersed via wind and grow into new organisms.
  5. Diploid sporophyte mother cells contained within the sporangia undergo meiosis and produce four haploid spores.
  6. The bacterial spores exist in the dormant stage and germinate once they are in favorable conditions.
  7. Spores in fungi are analogous to seeds in plants and are formed in the fruiting bodies.
