How the average speed is different from speed?

  1. Speed is defined as the distance (d) covered by a body in unit time (t).
  2. Speed can be calculated as,
    Speed=Distancetime
  3. In daily life, we see vehicles can travel at a higher speed when there is no traffic and slow down when there is traffic.
  4. In such cases, we use the concept of average speed.

Average speed:

  1. Average speed can be calculated as,
    Averagespeed=totaldistancecoveredtotaltimetaken
  2. Unit of speed and average speed is the same i.e., m/s or km/h.
