Solution

Galvanization:-

  • Galvanization is the process where Iron (Fe) and Steel are protected from rusting or corrosion with the help of Zinc (Zn).
  • In this process the iron or the steel is covered with a zinc coating.
  • This zinc-coated surface avoids the corrosion and weathering effects of the iron or steel by preventing the interaction of the surface with the atmosphere.
  • Since Zinc has a lower reduction potential due to its high reactivity than Iron, as a result, it will get oxidised first followed by Iron.

Therefore, In galvanization, iron is coated with a layer of zinc to prevent rusting.
