Question

Is NaCl it An Acid or Base?

Open in App
Solution

NaCl is a neutral. it is formed from the reaction between strong acid Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) and the strong base Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH).

  1. As per Arrhenius's theory the reaction between acid and base results in the formation of neutral salt Sodium Chloride (NaCl) and Water (H2O).
  2. NaOH(aq)+HCl(aq)NaCl(aq)+H2O(l)
  3. This reaction is called a neutralization reaction.

Arrhenius's theory: The Arrhenius principle states that an acid is a chemical that releases an H+ ion when dissolved in water. This increases the number of H+ ions present in the solution, A base is a chemical that dissolves in an aqueous solution and ionizes to an OH- ion. There are a lot of OH- ions in the solution.

Hence, NaCl is a neutral salt.
