Question

It is easier to culture plant cells in vitro as compared to animal cells. Why?

Open in App
Solution

Plant cells are totipotent cells and give rise to an entire new plant from a cell whereas animal cells are multipotent, embryonic stem cells are pluripotent and mature cells of an organ give rise to the same type of cells.

Also, preparing the culture medium for plant tissue culture is easier compared to animal tissue culture because the nutritional requirements of animals are more complex.

Thus, it is easier to culture plant cells in vitro as compared to animal cells.
