Solution

Fat:

  1. Fat, also known as fatty acid, comprises three key elements: carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, with carbon being the most abundant.
  2. It is a vital macronutrient and an essential component of all animals' and humans' diets.
  3. They consist of glycerol and fatty acids.
  4. Fat is stored in the body for protection, warmth, and energy.

Functions of fat:

  1. Fat is a significant food storage type. The extra energy consumed when eating too much is stored as fat in adipose tissue.
  2. They can act as a larger, longer-lasting energy reserve. Without water, fats pack tightly and can store much more energy in a smaller amount of area.
  3. The body is protected from severe temperatures by the thick layer of subcutaneous fat, which also aids in controlling the internal environment.
  4. The body uses fats to produce and control hormones. Adipose tissue, for example, secretes the hormone leptin, which tells the body of its energy level and helps in controlling appetite.
