Lymphoid tissues are organized structures that support immune responses (reaction of an organism to foreign substances).

There are lymphoid tissues that are present in the epithelial lining of organ systems that come in contact with the external environment, like the mucosal lining of the respiratory, urogenital and digestive systems. This portion of the lymphatic system is known as ‘Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue’ or MALT.
