Miller cuts a stick into four pieces as shown in the figure given below. What is the length of the stick that is left with him?

Given:

Length of the stick = $9 x y$

Length of the first part that was cut = $4 x y$

Length of the second part that was cut = $15$

Length of the third part that was cut = $3.5 x y$

Part of the stick that is left with him
= Total length – Length of the parts that were cut

$= 9 x y - 3.5 x y - 15 - 4 x y$

$= 1.5 x y - 15$

The length of the part of the stick that is left with him is $1.5 x y - 15$ .
