Compounds with phenol group gives green colouration with $F e C l_{3}$ .
Hence, compound (A) is phenol.

Phenol on treatment with $C H C l_{3} + A q . N a O H$ followed by hydrolysis gives salicylaldehyde. This reaction is known as Reimer-Tiemann reaction.

PCC will oxidise primary alcohol to aldehyde.
