Alex bought 100 candies, so that he can give 3 candies each to 46 of his friends. How many extra candies (rouned off to the nearest 10) does he have to buy?

Number of candies Alex bought = 100
Number of candies he wants to distribute = 3 × 46
= 46 + 46 + 46
= 138

Number of extra candies he needs to buy = 138 - 100 = 38

Rouding off to the nearest 10:
As the ones digit of 38 that is 8, is greater than 5, it will be rounded off to 40.
Hence Alex needs to buy 40 candies more.
