Question 2 (c)
Carrier of malaria-causing protozoan is :
a) female Anopheles mosquito
b) cockroach
c) housefly
d) butterfly
The answer is (a).
Carrier of malaria-causing protozoan is female Anopheles mosquito.
Malaria is a mosquito-borne infectious disease. It is transmitted through the bite of an infected female Anopheles mosquito. Infected mosquitoes carry malaria-causing parasitic protozoan (Plasmodium). When these infected mosquitoes bite, the parasites are released into the bloodstream. They travel to the liver, where they mature. After several days, the mature parasites again enter the bloodstream and begin to infect the red blood cells. Within 48 to 72 hours, the parasites inside the red blood cells begin to multiply, causing the infected cells to burst. This releases new parasites into the bloodstream. The parasites continue to infect more red blood cells, resulting in symptoms such as fever, fatigue, vomiting and headache.
