Sodium metal reacts with Hydrochloric acid to produce salt and Hydrogen gas. What are the reactants in this chemical reaction?

The reaction of metal with an acid:-

  • When a metal is put in an acid, it will get smaller and smaller as it is getting used up in the chemical reaction.
  • And at that time of being consumed, there is the production of the gas bubbles as well as salt.
  • The bubbles which are being produced in this reaction of metal getting consumed in and are of Hydrogen gas.
  • And this can be proven by the usage of the burning splint as such Hydrogen is a flammable gas.
  • The salt which is being produced depends upon the metal and acid which react.
  • General equation:- Acid+MetalSalt+Hydrogen.
  • Sodium metal reacts with Hydrochloric acid for the production of Hydrogen gas as well as the Sodium chloride salt.
  • Reaction:- 2Na(s)Sodium+2HCl(aq)Hydrochloircacid2NaCl(aq)Sodiumchloride+H2(g)Hydrogengas.

Therefore, reactants in this chemical reaction are Sodium metal and Hydrochloric acid.
