Given $45 x - 20 - 26 x = 37$
[rearranging the terms]
$= 45 x - 26 x - 20 = 37$
$\Rightarrow$ $19 x - 20 = 37$
$\Rightarrow$ $19 x = 37 + 20$ [when -20 is transposed to RHS it becomes +20]
$\Rightarrow$ $19 x = 57$
[dividing both sides by 19]
$\Rightarrow$ $\frac{19 x}{19} = x = \frac{57}{19} = 3$
