$\frac{3 (y - 5)}{4} - 4 y = 3 - \frac{(y - 3)}{2}$

Multiplying by 4, the L.C.M. of 4 and 2

$\frac{3 (y - 5)}{4} \times 4 - 4 y \times 4 = 3 \times 4 - \frac{(y - 3)}{2} \times 4 \Rightarrow 3 (y - 5) - 16 y = 12 - 2 (y - 3) \Rightarrow 3 y - 15 - 16 y = 12 - 2 y + 6 \Rightarrow 3 y - 16 y + 2 y = 12 + 6 + 15 \Rightarrow 5 y - 16 y = 18 + 15 \Rightarrow - 11 y = 33 \Rightarrow y = \frac{33}{- 11} = - 3 Hence y = -3 A n s .$
