Question

Solve the following system of linear equations by using the method of elimination by equating the coefficients
3x2y=3;5x+3y=2

Open in App
Solution

The given equations are
3x2y=3 ....(1)
5x+3y=2 ...(2)
Let us eliminate y. To make the coefficients equal, we multiply the equation (1) by 3 and equation (2) by 2 to get
3x6y=3 ....(3)
10x+6y=2 ....(4)
Adding equation (3) and equation (4), we get
3x+10x=5(3+10)x=5

x=53+10=(510+3)×(103103)

=5(103)109=5(103)
Putting x=5(103) in (1) we get

3×5(103)2y=3

5301532y=3

2y=5301533

2y=530163

y=53021632=51586

Hence, the solution is x=5(103) and y=51586
