Question

State Ostwald's dilution law.

Open in App
Solution

Ostwald's dilution law:-

  • Ostwald’s dilution law states that “The degree of dissociation of a weak electrolyte is inversely proportional to the square root of the molar concentration or we can say that it is directly proportional to the square root of volume holding one mole of the solute for a weak electrolyte.”
  • In mathematical terms we can write this statement as:

α=Kdc0

where α=degree of dissociation of electrolyte,

Kd=Dissociation constant,

c0=Concentration
